Raindrop

This sculpture is intended to question how we interact with the world around us.

The piece is made up of three parts expressing the elements for personal wellbeing: the base, expressing our need to anchor ourselves to the earth; the supports represent upturned hands, which are open to receive and nurture; and the raindrop representing our reliance on the natural world around us for our health and survival.

Visually, the form maintains the same shape from different perspectives, but the textural alterations symbolise that despite our diversity, we are all of one form.

We are expected to live and work in a society where change is accelerating, and the expectation is to keep up. The tubes are representative of our need to compartmentalise. As the viewer gets closer and tries to look through, the tubes align to provide windows designed to reflect our need to shut out some thoughts and to focus our minds on the important issues and priorities.
