Enigma

When sculpting, I mostly have a clear image of the final piece, and can develop the sculpture from sketches and drawings. Occasionally, as with this piece, I engage with the steel to observe how the form changes when set.

When observed from close-up it is obvious that the sculpture is made up from a series of steel rings on a repeated pattern, but when observed from a distance an optical illusion occurs and the rings appear to merge into continuous ribbons of steel.

This illusion has influenced the title.

Details

Each piece is handmade from mild steel, which ensures that each one is unique. The sculpture is available in 3 sizes. These are 300, 450 and 600mm diameter which give approximate heights of 1150, 1750 and 2250mm and are mounted on stone bases. 

As standard the pieces have lacquer coating applied after initial oxidization, other options are to have the pieces powder coated in any RAL color of your choosing alternatively the pieces can be hand painted for a one-off piece.  Each piece is named, signed, and numbered.

All the pieces are designed to be weather resistant, allowing for outside display throughout the year.
